Zimmer Institute Organises Knee Expert Interaction Meeting in Mumbai

Mumbai, March 25, 2012: Zimmer Institute, India, pioneers in the professional medical training, organised Zimmer Revision Knee Expert Interaction Meeting with invited foreign faculty Dr Kelly G. Vince from New Zealand and some top orthopaedic surgeons of Mumbai at Hotel Taj Lands End, Bandra West, this evening.

The special event is part of Zimmer Institute’s endeavours to help surgeons, resident doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals stay up-to-date with latest advancements in products and procedure in orthopaedics. During the event difficult cases and Primary and Revision Knee Arthroplasty were discussed. Prominent doctors from Mumbai, Dr. Nandu Laud, Dr Nilen Shah, Dr. Subodh Mehata, Dr C. J. Thakkar, Dr Shreedhar Archik, Dr Milind Padgaonkar, Dr. Pradeep Bhosale, Dr. Nirad Wengsakar & Dr.Rahul Shah along with Dr Vince shared their experiences and gave some tips and tricks to help get best results in such complex cases.

Renowned joint replacement specialist and honorary professor of Orthopaedics at the prestigious Maharashtra University of Health Science, Dr. C. J. Thakkar, addressing the seminar said, “The Revision knee replacement is a complex surgery where you have to detect the damage to the old implant and replace it with a better one. While in Primary knee replacement it’s a difficult decision to take weather to go for a total knee replacement or a unicompartmental join replacement. In such difficult and advanced cases the knowledge earned through such experience sharing platforms that helps us treat these complicated cases.” Dr Thakkar is also the Consultant Joint replacement specialist at the prominent hospitals of Mumbai the Breach candy and Lilavati hospital.

The Mumbai meeting comes on the heels of the mega event Zimmer Live Surgeries organised by the institute over the weekend at Gurgaon, Pune and Hyderabad. It created a landmark by telecasting live advanced joint replacement surgery across the country through web conferencing.

Dr Kelly G. Vince, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Whangerai Hospital, New Zealand who also performed the surgeries at the live event along with some of countries top orthopaedic surgeons, said, “I feel privileged to be in India and sharing same platform with such vastly experienced orthopaedic surgeons here. Agent Vinod loses out to Aazaan and Singham


While Agent Vinod is garnering a mixed response from its audiences, an internet poll has voted the movie much behind last year’s action releases like Singham and Aazaan, with Players and Don 2 also being part of the poll.

In an audience poll on a leading social networking site this week, the Saif Ali Khan starrer ranked behind Ajay Devgn's Singham and Sachiin Joshi's Aazaan in the race for the best action movies of the year. Luckily, going by its current hype, the film managed to beat Don 2 and Players by a small margin.

"While Aazaan had riveting action and breathtaking locales matching Hollywood production values, Singham made sure it stunned everyone with its car stunts and South Indian cinema style larger-than-life action," says a trade analyst. "Though Agent Vinod moves from one country to another, exploring different locations at a rapid pace, its script leaves a lot to be desired," he adds.

Going by the latest trends, it seems Bollywood still has to learn a few lessons before it can match up to Hollywood finesse the way Aazaan or Players did.





This German painter can’t speak English or Hindi. But India’s kaleidoscope of colours has magnetically drawn her into its artcape. And Andrea Klosowski is in India with her  exhibition titled ‘Incredible India’, at Kamal Nayan Bajaj Art Gallery from April 2 to 7.
Excerpts from an Interview...
What interests you about India?
Everything. Indianness is a very interesting theme. The colours of India are different and diverse. And I am not just talking about photographs, paintings or art here. Even the colours in traditional clothes have their own tales to tell. It is this combination fo colours, not often found elsewhere that attracted me to India.
It is very different to what Europeans are used to, bright and screaming. In its nuances and shadowing of chart of colour range  -- it reveals a culture, that observes the World from a different angle. To the artist in me, it exposures colours being rather rythmic, swinging and lively.
On the other hand, movement and change are the source of existence and energy. Travel as a form of movement, is an important Part of human life - more than ever in our modern globalised age. Travel reveals the character of humanity, for in encoutering Others we find ourselves: "go among people to find the strange and unknown," said Ernst Bloch. That is in a way, exactly what I seek.
 
Why the title Incredible India?

As an artist, India is more than a kaleidoscopic canvas to me. But I would like to share the feelings of the Indian Tourism Ministry with the words ‘Incredible India’ and I feel the same from within. India to me is exotic, etxtravagant, elegant, eclectic and at the same time rustic in its own way. From a very private point of view, I would have never dared to believe that I would have the chance to visit India once a life and even more to display some of my paintings there.
This breathtaking honour to visit India for my first time to join the exhibition of my own paintings describes for me how incredible India really is, which makes me choose this subject.

How does India feature in your thoughts as your works are abstract?
The approach to artistic creativity I have chosen is determined by sensitive treatment of material which - alternating between spontaneity and control - initiates processes of change, metamorphosis and renewal also touching upon the transcendental. Im showing acrylic Material Mix paintings, which transform structures of colour and form into imagery. Free of every link to reality, sensations of near and far are called into being.

The Act of painting takes on the nature of a Performance, and is a statement in itself, which is recreated when viewed by the viewer. The pictorial space forms into an energy-laden field in which surfaces interlock, react with one another, attract and then repel each other, perpetually reformulating the Balance. The image is dynamically organised and structured, and opens - beyond processes with a central perspective - up to further spatial vistas. The interplay of forms also opens up aesthetic relationships of Nature and landscape, while the frame of reference basically remains open. Forms and figures are indicated, but remain in the spere of amorphes and ephemeral. From the point of View of perspective, this Process does not allow the viewer to move towards a final Point - I do cast up questions in Relation to the whole and in Relation to the Limits and transitions of perception and imagination.

About your current works...
We are going to display close to 20 paintings, very recently prepared especially to be introduced to the Indian public.
All of them are being very much inspired by my individual mental preparation of going to India. For me they are talking dreams, imaginations, and of the fairy tales of India. They are full of respect and each of them is a homage to colourful country India

 The Avengers releases its official Hindi theme song- ‘Hello Andheron’

26th March, 2012- Ahoy, fans of The Avengers! The wait is finally over! The much talked-about Hindi theme song of The Avengers ‘Hello Andhero’ - composed and performed by popular band Agnee and lyrics by noted filmmaker Abbas Tyrewala (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Jhootha Hi Sahi) – is being officially launched today, March 26th in a spectacular music launch at Blue Frog at 7 pm. While Agnee will take the stage and perform Hello Andhero live, the biggest attraction of the night will be the appearance of Ironman at the venue!

The Avengers produced Marvel and being distributed in India by UTV Motion Pictures, had roped in Abbas and Agnee to create a theme song for their upcoming action-adventure flick The Avengers. A music video of the song will also be launched at the music launch.

The Avengers is the most anticipated Hollywood film this year and Agnee being  a popular band in India makes it a double bonanza for the Indian comic fans. The Avengers theme song and the music video will be widely marketed and will be available across various platforms. The movie will bring together the super hero team of Marvel Comics characters for the first time ever, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and more, as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced.
The Avengers is set to release in India on 27th April, 2012, a week before the US release date. The film will release in 3D and 2D versions. The film has also been dubbed for Hindi, Tamil and Telugu release.

Saif Ali Khan gets the biggest solo opening of his career, as Agent Vinod opens at R10 crore

Producer Saif Ali Khan and director Sriram Raghavan have already decided to continue the franchise with a sequel.In fact,Sriram,who is already zeroed in on a couple of ideas,will start working on one in the coming month after getting an amazing reponse at the box office.

Sriram says "We are working on an idea and will be making one more Agent Vinod film.The idea had always been to see Vinod in the midst of different adventures in different countries.Luckily for us,the film had an encouraging opening.Maybe in a month,I will start working on another film for the franchise.However,it's too early to say anything."
Sriram has also learnt a few things from his recent release."I have to take care of a couple of things in the future.For example,I have to make sure that the length of the film is two hours."
About the not so good reviews from critics,the filmmaker added,"I guess people expected a Johnny Gaddar.And it was completely opposite.It is a Bond kind of a movie with repeat value.It grows on you.The idea is to make different films and treat Agent Vinod as a franchise."
Actor Saif Ali Khan's latest production Agent Vinod has surpassed his debut production Love Aaj Kal's opening day record by R2 crore. Love Aaj Kal earned R8.25 crore, while Agent Vinod that was made at a budget of R50 crore gathered a whopping R10 crore by making it Saif's highest opening day collection so far.
“Saif has grown as an actor and also grown as a box-office power. The first day business is an indicator of a film's strength at the box office,“ said analyst Taran Adarsh.
Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the spy thriller also features actors Kareena Kapoor, Prem Chopra and Ram Kapoor. Saif says it was the best time to release a film like Agent Vinod. “The concept should appeal to people as it's got an exciting plot. The Tin Tin-like qualities is the USP of Agent Vinod,“ said Saif.
The theatre owners are happy with the first day response to the film and hope that it will sustain in the coming weeks. “The response to the film has been good. We have witnessed an occupancy of about 85%. The action and stunts of the film are quite appealing to the youngsters,“ Gautam Datta, of PVR.

For Saif, however, Agent Vinod has provided the biggest opening weekend he has had to date. Says Dinesh Vijayn of Illuminati Films, producers of Agent Vinod, “The film has got Saif the biggest opening so far. His last big opening was Love Aaj Kal (2009), which opened at R27 crores.“
Vijayn has a slightly different take on the film's numbers so far. He says, “The film made R9.8 crores on the first day, R10.2 crores on the second day and R10 crores on the third day day. Agent Vinod was made at a cost of R50 crores and we spent R12 crores on promotions. So the total cost is R62 crores.
The music of the film has been sold at R9 crores and satellite rights for seven years for R21 crores.“





Sanofi Pasteur India launches ‘I for Immunization’ awareness campaign

Invites citizens to share ideas on improving immunization awareness in India

Mumbai, March 27, 2012- In a run-up to the World Immunization Week (a worldwide collaboration convened by WHO providing an opportunity to raise awareness on immunization and increasing vaccine coverage) in April, Sanofi Pasteur India, the vaccines division of Sanofi (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY), announced the launch of ‘I for Immunization’ - its nation-wide campaign to spread awareness on the importance of immunization in India.

“Many people do not know that a large section of our country does not benefit from immunization. Only 61% of eligible children have received complete primary immunization with six basic EPI* vaccines. The Next Exhilarating Computing Opportunity


Mumbai, March 27, 2012- Intel in India, a leader in computing innovation today spoke about its All-in-One (AIO) strategy for the Indian market. Intel aims to enable a larger number of channel partners to offer All-in-Ones. The meeting was addressed by Suryanarayan B, Director-Sales (West), Intel South Asia. In his presentation, he explained in great detail the background and research behind Intel’s vision to enable channel on AIO and how AIO consumption in India is accelerating desktop growth, consumer reactions towards the AIOs and how the evolution of the AIOs is reviving desktops for consumers now and in the future.

Commenting on the way forward for the channel All-in-One strategy, Suryanarayan B, Director-Sales (West), Intel South Asia, said, “With the increased market interest and growth in the All-in-One segment over the past few years, we feel there is a real opportunity to enable the smaller system integrators with this form factor. The AIO desktops are slim, aesthetically pleasing personal computers that provides value and benefits to business and customers alike with the perfect balance of power and cutting edge performance. According to the world wide and U.S. PC client sub form factor 2011 – 2015 forecast conducted by International Data Corporation (IDC), AIO desktops are gaining traction in the desktop market, mostly driven by the consumer segment, where their share is expected to grow steadily and hit 33% by the end of 2015. The new 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ family processors not only provide AIO PCs with smart performance and stunning visuals, but they are energy-efficient and the vision Intel is driving towards is local integration of AIO systems with interchangeable motherboards, AIO enclosures and PC components from multiple suppliers. They are a new category of PCs that consolidate the computer and monitor in one space-saving device without compromising on performance.

For example, Maxtone electronics Pvt. Ltd which is a large channel supplier for Intel desktop CPU business in India and has been instrumental in enabling the IT channel in the country by bringing in new products and platforms. Maxtone has identified white box AIO as a growth opportunity and a category which will excite users with the new sleek space saving form factor. Additionally, Maxtone has plans to enable channel with 5-6 models in AIO with different features to meet demands of various market segments and customer through integration channels.

At the event, there were a series of demos that showcased endless computing opportunities with Intel’s vision for All-in-One products. Some of the demos that were shown were:

DHOOM:3
SHOOTING BEGINS MAY 2012 AS PLANNED


It is unfortunate that without checking, a leading morning broadsheet irresponsibly declared that the shooting of DHOOM:3 had been indefinitely postponed and that it would be shot after Aamir Khan completes certain other future commitments.

This is absolutely baseless.

DHOOM:3 starts shooting in May 2012 and Aamir Khan joins the schedule in June as per plan.

Produced by Aditya Chopra, DHOOM:3 is written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, who had also written DHOOM & DHOOM:2.

Apart from Aamir Khan, who plays the anti-hero in the film, and Katrina Kaif, both Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will continue in their now iconic roles of Jai Dixit and Ali.
  
The film is slated for a 2013 release.
