Dr. Shradha Maheshwari Neurosurgeon, Minimally Invasive Brain & Spine Surgeon, SL Raheja Fortis Hospital Dr. Shradha Maheshwari qualified as a neurosurgeon at the young age of 31. She is the third practising female neurosurgeon in Mumbai and the 17th in the country. She is also the first female spine surgeon in the city of Mumbai. She completed her MBBS from Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Mumbai, under MUHS University, and directly pursued her super-specialisation (DNB) in Neurosurgery at Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai, under the guidance of world-renowned neurosurgeons Dr. P. S. Ramani and Prof. Atul Goel. Following her post-graduation, she worked at several esteemed institutions, including Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital as a Senior Registrar, T. N. Medical College & Nair Hospital as an Assistant Professor, and LTMG Hospital & LTM Medical College as an Assistant Professor. With more than 15 years of experience following her neurosurgical training, Dr. Maheshwari has performed over 10,000 complex neurosurgical procedures across various subspecialties. In 2014, she pioneered the Department of Neuro & Spinal Surgery at Dr. R. N. Cooper Hospital & Hindu Hrudaya Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College, Mumbai, and currently serves as the Head of the Department. She has completed fellowships in Endoscopic and Minimally Invasive Neuro and Spinal Surgery. She is also attached as a Visiting Consultant at SL Raheja Fortis Hospital, Surya Hospital, and Criticare Group of Hospitals. Her areas of special interest include skull base surgery, spinal surgery, and paediatric neurosurgery. She is among the first surgeons in Mumbai to perform complex atlanto-axial surgery through an anterior approach, and the second in the country to perform this procedure. Dr. Maheshwari has authored over 25 publications in national and international journals and contributed three chapters to renowned international medical textbooks. She is actively involved in academic programmes, including organising cadaver workshops, and has been invited as international faculty for various programmes in countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and South Korea. She is also actively involved in promoting and supporting Women in Neurosurgery, with a focus on encouraging greater representation and participation of women in the field.
