Emma Roberts shares how her upcoming film Space Cadet inspired her in real life, “Maybe I could direct something one day” SPCD_2024_UT_221028_LIEERI_09577RC_3000.jpg Emma Roberts, known for comedies like We’re the Millers and Wild Child, is all set to tickle audiences’ funny bones with an inspiring tale of achieving one’s dreams in her upcoming Amazon Original Movie, Space Cadet. Written and directed by Liz W. Garcia, this classic coming-of-age comedy, with a touch of romance, will remind audiences to chase their greatest dreams, for the sky is truly the limit. The story centres on one of the most unlikely astronaut candidates: Tiffany "Rex" Simpson (played by Emma Roberts), a Florida-based bartender with a penchant for partying. Rex’s life takes an unexpected turn after she finds herself inexplicably admitted into NASA's highly competitive Astronaut Candidate (AsCan) training program. As Rex, Roberts embodies a relatable underdog, a dreamer who dares to take a chance. "I am obsessed with space," Emma Roberts shared with enthusiasm. She elaborated, "When I read the script, it instantly reminded me of some of my favourite movies – stories about young women finding their place in the world, even when it seems impossible. I absolutely fell in love with Rex. She's fun, she's smart, and she's not afraid to be honest. I couldn't wait to bring her to life." While Rex might not have the customary qualifications on paper, she possesses a unique kind of ingenuity. After all, she's always been known for her unconventional thinking. Space Cadet also celebrates the inroads that women have been making and will continue to make into science and engineering, with Rex and other female characters pursuing technology-based careers. Notably, for Roberts, the film inspired possibilities she hadn’t seriously considered before. “Working with Liz on this film, I thought, ‘Maybe I could direct something one day,’” she added. “I had always wanted to, but I never really thought I could until this movie. I think the Space Cadet is saying, it’s never too late to revisit your dreams. I know it sounds cheesy, but I really do believe that.” Besides Emma Roberts (who also serves as an executive producer), the film also stars Tom Hopper, Poppy Liu, and Gabrielle Union in pivotal roles. Space Cadet promises viewers a heartwarming and hilarious ride, premiering exclusively on Prime Video on July 4, 2024, in English with dubs in Hindi. --
