Medellin director Franck Gastambide shot in Pablo Escobar’s district; reveals his exhilarating experience French director Franck Gastambide is creating waves with his new fun-filled action comedy directorial Medellín on Prime Video. This unique and hilarious wacky adventure takes place far away from France, in the dangerous territories of Columbia and follows Reda, who devises a wild plan to rescue his little brother from dangerous drug traffickers belonging to the Medellín cartel. With a special guest appearance by Mike Tyson, the Amazon Original is shot in the infamously famous Pablo Escobar district of Medellin. Renowned after the notorious Pablo Escobar who was a Colombian drug lord, narcoterrorist, and a politician, was also the founder and sole leader of the Medellín Cartel. The eclectic director opened about being the first one to venture into the dangerous district of Medellin to shoot his film, “No one had ever filmed in the "Pablo-Escobar district", built by the drug baron himself. At first glance, it was scary. But we felt safe all the time. We were welcomed by warm people. They seemed grateful that we came to their neighborhood to shoot a film. At the end of each day of filming, the inhabitants of the district even invited us to eat.” Gastambide further added, “They have a somewhat ambiguous relationship with Pablo Escobar [deceased in 1993, editor's note]: they are aware of his monstrosity, but they are grateful to him because he has done for them what no one else was doing. His mother still comes to bring things for the children. He is somewhat considered an uncle by the younger generation.” Directed, co-written and acted by Franck Gastambide, the French Original film also stars Anouar Toubali, Ramzy Bedia, Anouar Toubali, Brahim Bouhlel, Raymond Cruz, Essined Aponte in pivotal roles. Medellin is produced by Kowloon Film (Eric Altmayer and Nicolas Altmayer) and is now streaming on Prime Video across 240 countries and territories.
