India an international priority for BBC’s Centenary year BBC Director General Tim Davie speaking in Mumbai 31 March 2022, Mumbai: BBC Director General Tim Davie tonight spoke about “a truly exciting moment for the Indian media and entertainment sector, with so much growth and opportunity”, at the Queen’s Birthday Party organised by the British Deputy High Commission. With the BBC’s strong international news services, its ‘Best of British’ content and its growing production business in India, he said: ‘I’m determined that the UK’s creative industries can play a big part, and ride that wave alongside you. For the BBC, it’s a huge priority for our Centenary year – to bring our global strength and perspective together with your local expertise and world-class production skills. “As we celebrate 100 years of fulfilling our mission to inform, educate and entertain audiences in the UK, we want to strengthen every part of that mission here in India, and as we celebrate the Queen’s Birthday here, we want to mark the Platinum Jubilee by making a strong historic relationship even stronger, and forging even closer cultural and economic ties between India and the UK.” Tim Davie talked about the close relationship that the UK and India have. “The ties between the world’s largest democracy and the world’s oldest are incredibly strong. We’ve so much in common when it comes to trade, culture, passions and values.”
