I think a big part of Marvel was the comedy” – Jon Favreau

ON HUMOR IN THE FILM
I like when they have a lot of comedy in the film as at the end of the day it’s a mixture, you are going have these big visual effects, you are going to have these huge stakes and the fate of so many on the hands of so few. And humor is a great way to help smooth all of that out and let the audience enjoy themselves, that goes back to the book and what Stan Lee did and I think a big part of Marvel was the comedy. It was the naturalism of the humanity of the flawed heroes. He had the villains who might have been misguided, there was always a cornel of justification in what motivated them and there always has been a dimension to the villains. There is always the real world setting- when I grew up it was set in New York, this one is set in Queens. It starts off in the neighborhood I grew up in, he goes to the school that’s based on the school I went to and it left so real. The humor felt real, it was human beings dealing with situations as anybody would have found themselves in such circumstances.

ON HAPPY’S RELATIONSHIP WITH PETER
I think the fact that they both had a really deep relationship with Tony, what Happy must have gone through in the five years that have passed and what Tony went through when Peter was not around and, now what Peter is going through. I think Happy has been right there in the thick of very intense times, and I think that matured Happy a lot. And I think that one of the things that you can do as a supporting character in a world popular by superheroes is you could be there and help them and support them because you know they can’t do it but without you, they might not able to be by themselves. And as I grow older in life, it’s like you get to know that we all are interdependent and so I think at least I projected the character that he takes all of this much more seriously, he could still be comical at times, but at the same time there has to be a strong emotional moments where you could kind of speak to what’s really happening and there’s a lot of emotional challenges for the character.

ON INTERNATIONAL SETTING
It’s really fun that there are so many different settings and you have an established set of characters and a limited amount of story lines you could pursue and still maintain the marvel formula of hero VS villain. So by great casting, bringing great people to play as Tom’s foil, but we also have a great back drop, all these opportunities for wonderful set pieces. You know what happens when a web shooter in Venice and the structures are in office buildings in Manhattan but they are instead overall structures that might not have the same structural integrity, what happens when you travel to places where you don’t belong, how it feels even though you are not a superhero and even if you are a student having your eyes open to what the world is like with all different cultures, different settings, histories. And of course from a film making perspective it’s really fun for them to use this as an inspiration for how cool it would be filming in the tower of London or outside it.

ON ACTING VS DIIRECTING
I am getting to do stuff that I couldn’t ever do, if I was directing I would be worried about all the things that the film makers are worried about. With acting I get to just come in and say “where you want me?” “what do I have to do for the scene?”  “How can I help?” And even as a cast, directors bring in a different energy because they are looking into a bigger picture in a way like how can I help in telling this story. When I was just an actor I didn’t really understand that but as film maker I really relate to the struggle that the film makers are going through.

ON HOW HAPPY’S RELATIONSHIP WITH AUNT MAY AFFECTS PETER
The whole aunt May storyline more services the teen comedy version of how could we make Peter off balance as a high school student and that’s something straight from the John Hue’s type of movie. So much of the film is about how we are going to solve this problem, how we going to fight this bad guy, all of these lofty things that we deal with in Iron Man movies but then he is worried about his relationship with the school or who his Aunt is dating and all the weirdness that makes surface for comedy in intergenerational relationships in the teen comedy.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Beyond the endgame lies a new beginning! Our friendly neighbourhood superhero - Spider-Man is back and this time he decides to join his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang on a European expedition. However, Peter's plan to leave super heroics behind for a few weeks are quickly scrapped when he begrudgingly agrees to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, creating havoc across the continent. Spider-Man and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) join forces to fight the havoc unleashed across the continent but all is not as it seems.
