Young India Inc. reaches for the sky in innovation while grounded in reality
Marico Innovation Foundation receives a record 437 entries for its “Innovation for India ” Awards 2012
Mumbai, March’12 – Denim to create affordable sanitary napkins for underprivileged women to using saline water to turn barren land into a verdant eco-system were some of the winners at the 3rd edition of the Innovation for India Awards 2010. Many such inspiring innovations will be recognized at the 4th edition of the Awards to be held by the Marico Innovation Foundation on March 30, 2012, in Mumbai.
The bi-annual awards aim to fuel innovation in India that benefits the wider society, and this year saw a record 437 entries. The applicants range from many sectors such as consumer products, financial services, auto and IT.
Some of the ”out-of-the box” entries include an ingenious way to recharge depleted bore wells, an unique rice husk and nano technology model along with cost efficient distribution to provide clean water to the poor; and a non conventional solid state cooling technology- with the right design , and with excellent last mile distribution channels.
They will be picked by an eminent jury panel which consists of Dr. R A Mashelkar, Ms. Anu Aga, Mr. R Gopalakrishnan, Mr. Nadir Godrej, Prof Ashok Junjhunwala, Dr. Makarand Phadke, Dr. Shashi Singh and Mr. Ravi Venkatesan.
Commenting on the awards, Mr. Harsh Mariwala, Founder Marico Innovation Foundation and Chairman & Managing Director, Marico Ltd. said, “India is clearly burgeoning with innovative talent so, corporate India and the government must create a supportive eco-system to allow such useful home-grown innovations to thrive. The Innovation for India Awards by Marico Innovation Foundation is one such attempt to acknowledge and encourage ideas that impact the society at large and its impact to the larger community”.
The entries are being judged on the magnitude of impact on business, society, as well as on how successful they are in meeting unique needs and reaching out to uncharted areas. Facilitated by Knowledge Partner Bain & Company, a leading global consulting firm, the entries have been shortlisted and selected after rigorous screening and elimination by the eminent jury panel.
