*Jaaved Jaaferi Names Vyjayanthimala, Sridevi And Madhuri Dixit As The Greatest 'India Wala' Dancers*
*Mumbai, XX June 2026:* Having spent decades celebrating dance in its many forms, Jaaved Jaaferi knows a thing or two about what makes a truly memorable performer. As the veteran entertainer gears up for *India's Best Dancer Season 5*, he recently reflected on the artists who, in his opinion, best embodied the essence of "India Wala Dance", a style rooted in grace, expression and Indian tradition.
When asked which performers come to mind when he thinks of authentic Indian dance, Jaaved was quick to name some of Hindi cinema's most iconic actresses. _"If we're talking about India Wala Dance, then it goes way back," Vyjayanthimala first, I would say, then Sridevi ji, Hema ji, Madhuri ji. These are the ideal India Wala Dancing ladies for me."_
The actor further explained that what set these legends apart was their ability to bring elegance and authenticity to every performance. _"When I remember really graceful dancers, these are the names that come to me immediately. Later, of course, Madhuri ji, and also Meenakshi Seshadri. For me, these are among the top dancers we have had in Indian cinema."_
Jaaved also acknowledged the contributions of legendary performers like Helen and Cuckoo, who left a lasting impact on dance in Hindi films. However, when it comes to dance rooted in Indian aesthetics and expression, he believes the names of Vyjayanthimala, Sridevi, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit and Meenakshi Seshadri remain unmatched.
Speaking about male performers, Jaaved highlighted the unique styles of Shammi Kapoor, Govinda and Prabhu Deva. _"I really liked Shammi ji's style. Govinda is obviously loved for his desi style and the way he brings his personality into dance, and Prabhu Deva has a strong classical base while also adapting beautifully to western styles,"_
For Jaaved, great dance is not just about technique but about personality, expression and the ability to connect with audiences. As he returns to the dance reality space, the veteran performer continues to draw inspiration from the legends who helped define Indian dance on screen and set the benchmark for generations to come.
*Don’t miss India’s Best Dancer Season 5, starting June 6th on Sony Entertainment Television and streaming on Sony LIV.*
