Zee 5 and Google Cloud Collaborate to Reimagine Content Discovery with ‘Clips’
~ Built with Google Cloud, the technology uses advanced Gemini models to identify high-engagement moments and automatically turn them into short-form vertical videos at scale ~
~ National, 5th October 2026: Zee 5 is seeing strong momentum for Clips, its AI-powered vertical short-video experience designed to expand how audiences discover and engage with entertainment on the platform. By surfacing compelling moments from its long-form catalogue in a quick, swipe-led format, Clips is transforming moments of discovery and creating a new pathway for audiences to sample content and move seamlessly into the full-length experience.
Engineered by the Zee 5 and Google Cloud teams, the technology behind Clips brings together the Gemini Pro, Chirp multilingual model, Cloud Vision API and deep-learning models to transform how long-form content is processed for discovery. The system identifies high-engagement moments within movies and shows, automatically converting them into short, vertical videos, enabling Zee 5 to create content for discovery from its existing catalogue at scale and speed.
More than a short-form viewing experience, Clips is creating a new way for Zee 5 to bring moments from its long-form library to audiences, opening up more intuitive pathways to explore the breadth of entertainment available on the platform. Audiences can sample a moment from a movie or show and move directly into the full-length title when it sparks interest. Early viewing behaviour is showing a meaningful movement from Clips to full-length content, reinforcing the role of short form as an entry point to deeper consumption.
Tejkarran Singh Bajaj, Business Head - Zee 5 India and AI & Innovation, said, “At Zee 5, we are rethinking how audiences discover and engage with entertainment, and Clips is a direct reflection of that approach. Developed in collaboration with Google Cloud, it brings compelling moments from our long-form catalogue into a quick, swipe-led experience, giving audiences a new way to encounter stories they may not have actively searched for. This creates a more intuitive path from discovery to deeper consumption, while allowing us to unlock the potential of the content already available on Zee 5. It also reflects our larger ambition to combine bold product thinking with technology to make the Zee 5 experience more dynamic, personal and audience led”.
Pramod Prakash, Chief Technology Officer, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., said, “Clips was built around a simple audience need: making it easier for viewers to discover stories they may not have actively searched for. The solution uses AI to identify engaging moments within long-form content and automatically transform them into short, vertical videos, creating a more intuitive entry point into the Zee 5 catalogue. Co-built with Google Cloud, it brings together Gemini models, the Chirp multilingual model, Speech-to-Text, Cloud Vision API and deep-learning models to process and package content for discovery at scale. The technology gives us a more intelligent way to connect individual moments with the larger stories they come from, while creating new pathways for audiences to explore the breadth of content available on Zee 5”.
Amit Kumar, Managing Director, Digital Natives Business at Google Cloud India, said, “Our collaboration with Zee 5 on Clips is a great example of our deep partnership and it demonstrates how generative AI can drive measurable business value at scale. By leveraging Google Cloud’s advanced Gemini models, these joint AI innovations accelerate time-to-market for new platform features while continuously elevating the daily viewer experience”.
With Clips, Zee 5 is moving beyond conventional content discovery. By combining AI with an audience-first product approach, the platform is building more unconventional paths from a moment of interest to deeper content consumption, reinforcing its ambition to make the Zee 5 experience smarter, more intuitive and increasingly personal.

Building Tomorrow: How Plaksha University is Shaping India’s Tech Frontier
In an AI-driven world, tech universities have an important role of not just teaching new technologies, but also to help shape how they are built, understood, and applied. Plaksha University has spearheaded this mission at the intersection of deep-tech research, interdisciplinary innovation, and hands-on learning. From anchoring high-level policy discussions on national AI infrastructure to integrating machine learning directly into biotechnology, here is how Plaksha is driving India's AI transformation.
Plaksha’s Founding Chancellor and Ex-Berkeley Engineering Dean, Dr. Shankar Sastry Tells Graduates AI's Next Big Test Is Going to be Financial
Dr. Shankar Sastry, Plaksha University's founding Chancellor, brings credentials which are rare in Indian academia. Before Plaksha, he spent over a decade as Dean of Engineering at UC Berkeley, led the Information Technology Office at DARPA and held faculty positions at MIT and Harvard. At Plaksha's second convocation, he drew on that experience to tell graduates where AI is actually headed, and where it could go wrong.
He pointed to work already underway at EMBER, Plaksha's Embodied Intelligence and Robotics lab, where his team is building humanoid robots that can assemble other robots, run search and rescue and play table tennis. He called this Physical AI, AI that moves off the screen and into the physical world, and said it will demand a new generation of lean, power efficient processors built for the edge.
Referencing Richard Sutton's Bitter Lesson, the idea that more data beats clever engineering, Dr. Sastry cautioned that the race to feed ever larger models could break budgets before it breaks new ground. He called safe AI and alignment between competing agents the defining problem of the decade, one still unsolved.
He closed by telling graduates their job is not just to build what comes next, but to leave society better off for it. Click here for the full address.
Sarvam AI , Microsoft Research & BharatGen among other industry leaders came together to discuss a roadmap for global leadership to build India’s AI Engine
What will it take for India to move from being one of the world's fastest adopters of AI to becoming a global leader in it? That question anchored ‘Building India's AI Engine’, a panel discussion hosted by Plaksha University on the eve of its second convocation, bringing together some of the biggest names shaping India's AI story.
The panel included Vivek Raghavan, Co-founder of Sarvam AI, Sriram Rajamani, Corporate Vice President at Microsoft Research, Maneesh Singh, Vice President of Machine Learning at BharatGen, Hitesh Oberoi, Co-promoter, MD and CEO of Info Edge, Neeraj Aggarwal, Vice Chair - Asia Pacific at Boston Consulting Group, and Dr. Shankar Sastry, Plaksha's founding Chancellor and Thomas Siebel Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at UC Berkeley.
The conversation moved from building foundational models and scaling AI infrastructure to the harder questions of nurturing talent and building an ecosystem that can sustain research and innovation over the long run. It reflected the cross-sector thinking Plaksha aims to cultivate, bringing together individuals from distinct corners of India's AI landscape to examine what the country's path forward genuinely entails.
