Akshay Kumar reveals die-hard love for Gujarati thali: "Undhiyu aur Tuar ki Daal ka Mazza Edamame Mein Nahi" Mumbai: Known for his disciplined lifestyle and love for simplicity, in an upcoming episode, host Akshay Kumar opens up about his fondness for Gujarati cuisine. He also playfully dismissed the obsession with expensive modern food trends like Avocado and Truffle Mushroom Pasta during a lively conversation with guest Viraj Gehlani. Viraj Gehlani, who comes from a Gujarati family, talks about the traditional food routine followed at home. Sharing a glimpse of his upbringing, Viraj says, “Main Gujarati family se aata hoon. Hamare ghar mein routine hota hai: Monday ko tuar ki daal, Tuesday normal, Wednesday moong ki daal, Friday kadhi, aur Saturday ko urad ki daal.” Listening to this, Akshay instantly lights up and shares his love for the cuisine, saying, “Yaar Gujarati khana mereko bahut maza aata hai. Mereko toh Gujarati thali bhi bahut sahi lagti hai.” Viraj further adds that he grew up eating Gujarati food daily, sharing, “Season ho toh undhiyu bhi ban jaata hai.” However, he humorously reveals how his diet has changed after marriage, saying, “But ever since I am married, I eat avocado on Monday and sourdough bread on Tuesday.” Reacting to this lifestyle shift, Akshay jokingly compares the two food worlds and says, “Woh jo life thi na, jo undhiyu, jo tuar ki daal, usme jo mazza hai na… humara Hindustani khana hai jo, Gujarati thali ka jo maza hai, edamame aur baaki kisi aur cheez mein nahi hai.” Viraj continues the banter by revealing how he now finds himself eating international dishes, saying, “I eat Truffle Mushroom Pasta, sir. It’s so expensive… I don’t even like it, but my wife says you have to eat. Now you are sitting with big people.” Amused by the contrast, Akshay jokingly asks, “So what’s the benefit of eating this?” to which Viraj laughs and replies, “Sir, it’s so expensive. I don’t know what the benefit is of eating this.” The conversation gets even funnier when the two discuss how unfamiliar they initially were with modern superfoods. Viraj jokes, “Meri mummy ko pata nahi tha avocado kya hota hai. Sab log kiwi samajhkar khaate the.” Akshay responds with equal honesty, saying, “Actually mujhe bhi nahi pata tha avocado kya hota hai, baad mein jaake pata chala ki woh ek kamaal ka fruit hai.” Adding to the humour, Viraj jokes about how marriage has even changed the way he speaks, saying, “English bolna seekh gaya main. Mereko nahi aata tha English. Now I’m preposterous and obnoxious. I talk like this, sir.” Relating to his story, Akshay laughs and replies, “Pata nahi par teri kahani mere se thodi bahut milti julti hai. English ki baat aati hai toh mera bhi thoda haath baitha hai.” Viraj narrated a laugh-out-loud incident involving Mushroom Tagliatelle, a dish he couldn't pronounce, while serving guests. The candid confession leaves everyone on stage laughing as the conversation continues with playful banter between Viraj Gehlani and Akshay Kumar.
