New York got a surprise ahead of the 2025 US Open when Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey traded Hollywood glamour for a tennis racket, joining Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios for a relaxed hit. With the summer sun shining and the city skyline as their backdrop, the two shared plenty of laughs, casual rallies, and showed that warm-ups don’t always have to be serious business.
At one point, Kyrgios dropped a line that could work just as well in a locker room as on a movie set: “Pressure is a privilege.” The pair chatted about tennis, fitness, and McConaughey’s regular games with American Actor Woody Harrelson. Kyrgios offered a few light coaching tips, while McConaughey admitted he prefers tennis over jogging any day, calling it “a hell of a lot more fun than running a mile.”
It wasn’t about keeping score; it was about enjoying the game. Compliments flew after good shots, handshakes wrapped it all up, and the mix of Hollywood charm with on-court skill left everyone watching with a smile. A simple, feel-good moment that reminds you why people love sport.
The 2025 US Open gets underway on August 18 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City. Catch all the action live on JioHotstar and the Star Sports network.
